Square-Enix has send out invites today to the press to attend "The Future of Final Fantasy" event that will take place on June 11 at 9 A.M. PDT. The event will feature the Final Fantasy brand director and senior vice president, Shinji Hashimoto.

As many of you might remember he is the one who told us his wise words to "please be excited"  and wait for the formal announcement of a  Final Fantasy project for PS4 at E3, so it is possible that it will be discussed at this event. The event will be private to the press with no live streams, but we'll keep you updated on what  will be revealed as more information becomes available.

World Names for FFXIV Beta Phase 3 are Revealed

June 05, 2013
Kat

Square-Enix has today released a list of names of the servers that will be used for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn during phase 3 of the beta test. Currently, they will be divided into two groups. A group for only new people to join in, and a group for Legacy memebers which they can  use to transfer their characters from 1.0 version of the game. Brand new servers are named after popular enemies from the Final Fantasy series, while servers for Legacy members retained their names from 1.0 version. The servers are also divided between being Japanese and North American, but it doesn't mean that people, for example, from Japan can't join to play with people from North America. It only refers to the location where those servers are being kept. Please click "Read More" for the full list of the servers.

Opinions: Have We Been Too Harsh on Final Fantasy XIII?

June 02, 2013
Phoenix

FFXIII1

Perhaps one of the most difficult challenges that a video game developer can have is keeping its fan-base happy; gamers are a skeptical bunch that don’t tend to react well to change. It is this mentality that makes the task of developing for a long-running, fanatically loved franchise one of the most difficult in the industry. As developers try to find ways to keep the franchise new and exciting they are effectively walking a tight-rope; all it takes is just one wrong step and the series’ reputation is damaged inexorably. Square Enix has had to learn this lesson the hard way after the thirteenth major installment in its long-running and critically-acclaimed Final Fantasy series left many of the series’ fans feeling disenchanted with the franchise. Despite receiving decent critical reception, there is simply no denying that some of the series’ fervor has been dampened in the wake of Final Fantasy XIII, so much so that its direct sequel is one of the worst-selling Final Fantasy titles released on home consoles. But as time moves on I can’t help but ask the question “Have we been too harsh on Final Fantasy XIII?”
