About a day ago, Square-Enix revealed its next iOS project that is based on the Romance of Three Kingdoms novels, but, with certain warlords transformed into beautiful women. Insights on the battle system has surfaced. According to Siliconera, the battle system resembles that of 1996 Dragon Force or the Sega Saturn:

Sangokushi Rumble has players send out soldiers that run towards the enemy army and clash with any units they come into contact with. Combat is all real time and you can tap on warlords to use special moves. The game has boss battles where you will run into other notable warlords and event scenes that explain the story.

Take a look at the screenshots of the battle gameplay. The characters are miniaturized and color-coded by army. Health bars of major characters are shown. Character icons are shown at the bottom of the screen. If you look closely, you can see a small circle with symbol on it. Each symbol is color coded. For instance, horsemen are yellow whereas archery are green.

Also, beautiful and finely detailed artworks of the characters have surfaced.

Sangokushi Rumble is now avaiable for free download. If you act quickly within the launch period, you can score a rare Cao Cao free of charge.

In the latest issue of Famitsu, Director Tetsuya Nomura, and co-director Hajima Tabata, and Total Visual Director Takeshi Nozue shed light on the recently announced, Final Fantasy XV.

The development team utilizes the Microsoft DirectX11 software in a high-setting PC environment to operate Final Fantasy XV. Since both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One support the software, the game will be released on both consoles. Although the odds of the game porting to Wii U is nil, it can work on PCs. However, this has yet to be officially confirmed as it is currently undecided by Square-Enix.

Again, Final Fantasy XV requires a high-end PC to run it and because of this the development team is measuring the potential “demand” from PC users.

Square-Enix also considers incorporating the PlayStation Vita, tablets, and smartphones to the gameplay of Final Fantasy XV. The game features that these devices may hold and how the devices will interact with the game are unknown at this point.

Square-Enix’s creative decision to make Final Fantasy XV an Action RPG and abandon the trademark turn-base battle system indicates the company new direction for gaming. Producer Shinji Hashimoto wishes that fans will appreciate the shift combat gameplay and will be asked for feedback soon. In addition, the player will be able to let Noctis climb onto monsters (as shown in the E3 Gameplay Trailer) as well as switch between three characters in real time. But, if Noctis gets slain, then it’s game over.

Hashimoto says that more information on the game will be announced soon! So, stay tuned.

Square-Enix has an upcoming new iOS game called, Sangokushi Rumble, which is based off of the epic Chinese novels, The Romance of The Three Kingdoms. People who have played the Dynasty Warriors and Romance of The Three Kingdoms games from Tecmo Koei will see familiar faces and names. However, there's a feminine twist in Square-Enix's version. The company romanticizes the characters even further and made the creative decision to transform and feminize some of the characters including Liu Bei, Guan Yu, Hua Xiong, and Dong Zhuo into gorgeous women! Square-Enix also uploaded a short trailer showcasing the beautiful warlords.

Sangokushi Rumble will be available for iOS devices (iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad).

What do you all think? Is this game too much?

Despite the recent doom and gloom surrounding Square Enix's corporate state, the Japanese developer & publisher has decided that the time is right to open a new branch based in Indonesia. The new branch, named Square Enix Smileworks, consists of 23 employees with 3 transferring over from Square Enix's Japanese branch. Indonesia was chosen due to its economic growth and increase in consumer buying power.

Square Enix Smileworks' primary focus will be on publishing Square Enix games in the Southeast Asia region before eventually moving on to developing their own games. Another of Square Enix Smileworks' duties will be to create artwork for social games - something Square Enix has been pushing a lot lately as it hopes to turn its financial fortunes around.

There is no news yet on whether the Final Fantasy series will play a role in Square Enix Smileworks' future.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII E3 Demo Impression

June 17, 2013
Jesus

Cecily Lam of Kingdom Hearts Insider wrote his E3 demo impressions on Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. The highlights of the demo are:

  • There's only one playable character and that's Lightning.
  • Paradigm Shift is replaced with "Schemata", which is analogous to the Dressphere system in Final Fantasy X-2.
  • Three schemas were playable in the demo: Divinity, Dark Muse, and Sorceress. Each schema is preset with four different battle commands.
  • Overclock Mode decelerates time for briefly, which advantageously allows Lightning to spam attacks on her foe.
  • Moving wavelengths and its intensity appear when a foe is close to being stagger.

Opinions: Why Final Fantasy XV Deserves a Fair Chance

June 15, 2013
Phoenix

Final Fantasy XV 1

It’s been a long road for Final Fantasy XV - formerly known as Final Fantasy Versus XIII before being rebranded at Sony’s E3 conference earlier this week. It’s hard to believe that the game was originally announced alongside Final Fantasy XIII back at E3 in 2006. Judging by the reactions on our forums it’s safe to say that, for the most part, its re-announcement has done much to quell the previously existing doubt that many felt towards the game - doubt built upon repeated delays and time spent outside of the public spotlight. But despite all of the positive reaction towards Final Fantasy XV’s unveiling, it seems that some have already decided that the game is a lost cause. I’m here to argue why this is not the case, why Final Fantasy XV deserves a fair chance.
